NOBBTSC Membership Meeting Minutes:

March, 03  2006

Meeting was called to order at 8:10pm by Danny LeCompte, President.

There were 18 members present.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Kenneth Gue, Secretary, in the absence of Mike Lewis, Treasurer.  The Report was accepted by motion made by Vic V. and 2nd by Mike La.

Lieutenant Steve M.  reported on the Bears Night Out for the month of February.  The Club met at Cutter’s Bar on Franklin close to Royal on Febr 11, 2006 to watch the Krewe du Vieux Parade.  It was great fun and enjoyed by all.

There was no Vice-President’s Report because VP Tibby T. was in Texas attending L.U.E.Y. with Lieutenant Sonny C.  Hope they had a good time.

A review of the Carnival Krewe Ball season heard.  NOBBTSC provided security for 3 of the Balls.  A special thanks to Don M. for providing the wine that was donated and given as gifts at these occasions.

The King Arthur and Krewe of Thoth (NOT Tooth) parades were discussed.  Several members met at the corner of Josephine and St Charles to attend these parades.  We had a great time.  Of course, the parades were wonderful.

Bears, Bubbles and Beads! that was held on Lundi Gras was mentioned.  A special thanks to Dave and Dale for hosting this excellent event.

A letter was received from the NO/AIDS Task Force thanking us (on behalf of BLOCK) for the contribution raised at the last beer bust.

The upcoming April meeting, Bears Night Out and Bake Sale was discussed.  The meeting is scheduled for April 7th.  The Bears Night Out was scheduled for April 8th.  The Bake Sale is scheduled for April 9th.  Many members were concerned about this schedule,…3 days in a row…(you know…we do tire easily.)   Therefore, the BEARS NIGHT OUT WAS MOVED TO APRIL 15TH.  The location will be discussed at the April meeting.  To recap, the April meeting will be held at the Phoenix Bar at 8pm with the Beer Bust to follow.  The Bake Sale will be held in front of Cutter’s Bar on Franklin near Royal on Sunday, April 9th at 9am  (yes, Palm Sunday).  The Bears Night Out will be held Saturday, April 15th at a location to be named later. Clear?

The Club has discussed this before, but wants to mention it again:  Keep May 14th free on your calendars.  That is Mother’s Day….and would have been Wally Sherwood’s 73rd birthday.  We at attempting to get in contact with Marty & Coo from the Friendly Bar to see if something can be planned in the way of a Memorial Fundraiser for Buzzy’s Boys and Girls…in Wally’s name.  More on this as details become available.

Bears Night Out for the Month of March will be held at Elizabeth’s Restaurant 601 Gallier Street (corner of Gallier and Chartres) at 7pm on March 11th

There should be a B.L.O.C.K. Beer Bust held on March 31st.  NOBBTSC will be available to assist in this, think it is someone else’s turn to host it. More info on this on the Yahoo Group, as details become available.

Mike M. brought up some interesting events.  Mobile, AL. is having a Gay Pride Parade on April 8th,…with many festivities also held the night before, April 7th.  (Yes, this is the date of our April NOBBTSC meeting.)  Mike was asking if it was possible for NOBBTSC to have a group march in the parade.  More info will be put on the Yahoo Group site as it becomes available.

Mike, also asked about the display case.  Robert F. mentioned that it might be possible to get one from the Lords that was currently being stored in someone’s garage.  This will be checked into when Tibby returns.

Birthdays and Anniversaries were announced.

Meeting adjourned at 8:52pm by motion of Vic V. and 2nd by John V.

Respectfully submitted,

Kenneth Gue, Secretary

January  06,  2006

Meeting was called to Order at 8:07pm by President Danny LeCompte.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Treasurer Mike Lewis.  The Report was accepted by motion made by Vic V. and 2nd by Dave J.

Sonny C. and Steve M., Lieutenants, reported on the NOBBTSC Christmas Party that was held at New Orleans’s Ladies Ballroom on Dec. 11th.   Steve, also mentioned, that more profiles were needed for the website.  He stated he would be bringing his camera to meetings, and would be willing to take pictures for members to be included in that portion of the website.  At the moment, to any visitor to our website, it appears that we only have 4 members, when in fact, we have close to (if not more than) 50!  Also, the BLOCK Party held Dec 30th was reviewed.

The Vice-President’s Report was given by Tibby T., our new Vice President.  It seems there has been a delay in sending the toasters from BOCF in Florida, due to unspecified internal problems.  Several upcoming events were mentioned in this report.  The Night of the Black Masque is being held outside the Phoenix Bar on Feb. 25th.  The Thoth Ball is being held Feb. 26th, anyone wishing tickets, see Vic V..  NOBBTSC is sponsoring their annual Palm Sunday morning Bake Sale on April 9th, in front of Cutter’s Bar (old Chet’s) near the corner of Franklin and Royal Streets.  Another Bake Sale is in discussion for the weekend of Nov. 12th with the location forthcoming.  The French Quarter Festival is scheduled for the weekend of April 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.

NOBBTSC will again be providing security for Balls this year.  The first Ball will be AmonRa scheduled for Feb. 4th at the Quadroon Ballroom of the Bourbon Orleans Hotel on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter.  Valet parking will be available.

Danny also reported that BOSF  /IBR 06 had fundraisers and chose 2 of our favorite charities to be recipients of those funds.  They are Project Lazarus and Buzzy’s Boys and Girls.  Our thanks go to BOSF.

Bears Night Out for January 14th was discussed.  By vote of membership, the site will be Mona Lisa’s Restaurant at 7pm.

Birthdays and anniversaries were announced.

Dave J. announced that on Monday, Feb. 27th, the Sweet Olive Bed & Breakfast would be hosting another Bears, Bubbles and Beads party from 4 to 7pm.

Mardi Gras parades were announced.  Krewe of King Arthur will be parading on Feb. 19th at 1pm and Krewe of Thoth will be parading on Feb. 26th.  Anyone wishing to view these parades is invited to Kenneth G.’s home at 2100 Baronne Street.  He lives 3 blocks from St Charles Street.  Very convenient for restroom facilities etc.  Call 529-6975 (yes, same as found on many bathroom walls in the Quarter) for further info.

SPARQ is sponsoring a social at Goodfriend’s Bar on Jan 27th at 7pm.  Members of NOBBTSC are invited to attend.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:54pm by motion of George T. and 2nd by Vic V.

Respectfully submitted,

Kenneth Gue, Secretary

Treasurer’s Report was read by George Tresch, Treasurer.  Report was accepted by motion made by Vic V. and 2nd by Tibby T.

Lieutenant Tibby T. reported on a project by Carey from Florida and the BOCF regarding a gift of 30 toasters to be given to any NOBBTSC member that night need one.  They will be shipped directly to Tibby, who then will distribute them to the members.  Tibby will convey the Club’s thanks to Carey and this fine group.

Danny LeCompte reported on November’s Bears Night Out.  The location was moved to Elizabeth’s Restaurant in the Bywater related to business constraints of the originally selected site.  Good food was enjoyed by all!  Elizabeth’s will certainly remain in consideration for future Night’s Out.

The Annual Election of Officers was held by secret ballot.  The new Officers will be:

President:                     Danny LeCompte

Vice-President:            Tibby Thibodeaux

Secretary:                     Kenneth Gue

Treasurer:                     Mike Lewis

Lieutenants:                  Sonny Cuneo and Steven Melancon

Words cannot express the gratitude of the Club for the services rendered by outgoing Treasurer George Tresch and Lieutenant Wally Sherwood.  So, we offer a simple “Thank you, and job well done.”

NOBBTSC will be hosting it’s Annual Christmas Party on December 11, 2005 from 6 to 9PM at New Orleans Ladies Ballroom.  This ballroom is located at 1771 Stumpf Blvd in Gretna, LA.   The instillation of the new Officers will take place during this event.   A gift exchange will also occur.  Please bring a wrapped gift in the $20 range to be exchanged during the party.

Gentlemen, New Orleans is truly coming back, as evidenced by this news.  Vic V. (Bear) will again be playing Santa Claus this year on December 10, 2005 for Celebration In The Oaks.  Just goes to show you, those Twisted Sisters (Katrina and Rita) cannot keep a good city or Bear down!!!

Birthdays and Anniversaries were announced for the month of December.  Since NOBBTSC did not hold Meetings in September and October (related to the aforementioned Twisted Sisters) Birthdays and Anniversaries were also reviewed for those two months.  Be it duly noted that in September, we added two Life Members; Don M. and Paul S.  Congratulations, guys.

December contains a 5th Friday.  NOBBTSC has agreed with the other 4 Clubs to host the event at the Phoenix Bar, 941 Elysian Fields Ave, NO, LA. from 9PM until 12MN.  It was also agreed that the proceeds be donated to Food For Friends.

The Board is in contact with the Gay Mardi Gras Krewes regard their Balls.  NOBBTSC has historically provided security for these events, and is willing to do so again this year, if needed.  More on this topic at our January meeting.

The organizer of the Celebration of Friends in Ft. Lauderdale, FL presented information about their event to be held June 22nd thru 25th, 2006.  For information, contact info@clelbrationoffriends.org or call 854-920-3300 or 1-800-996-3426 for reservations, mentioning “A Celebration of Friend”.  Visit their website at http://www.celebrationoffriends.org.  A charitable donation of $35 covers the cost of this event.

The next meeting will be held on January 6th, 2006....or more commonly known as King’s Day here in New Orleans.  Gee, do you think we might have to bring a King Cake?

Meeting was adjourned at 8:58PM by motion made by Vic V. and 2nd by Eddy R. (Meeting done within the hour...good job, Danny).

July 14th was the Dining Out for AIDS and 22 members of NOBBTSC showed up at Cafe de Famile on the Westbank.  Seems the entertainment for the night was watching the alligators eating frogs.  Hmmmm.

At 10PM, the Phoenix will be hosting their annual block party for “Meet the Contestants” of the Mr Louisiana Leather Contest.  This is a huge event, with Rampart Street being blocked off and the party spills out into the street.  Lots of hot Bears and Leather men......need I say more?

The June Bear's Night Out at Chevy's Fresh Mex Restaurant was
discussed.  Seems some members of the group had to put on some sort
of hats!

Bear's Night for July location has been changed to Deanie's located
at
713 Lake Avenue, Metairie, LA. 70005  831-4141.  Easiest way to
find Deanie's is to come down Vets Highway to Lake Avenue.  On this
corner is the high-rise office building – Heritage Plaza.  Turn
toward the lake...and proceed to the restaurant.  It will be on your
right hand side...as you approach the lake.
Of course, it will be held at the usual time of
7PM.

On Sunday, July 10th, the GAA Awards will be presented at Body &
Soul Bar ...on the corner of Chartres and Marigny streets....across
the street from the Friendly Bar (2301 Chartres Street.)  The awards
start at 8PM.

planning on meeting at Restaurant des Families (689-7834) at 7PM.

The B.L.O.C.K. party (held the 5th Friday of each month having 5
Fridays) will be held at Cowpoke's Bar 2240 St Claude Avenue, NOLA
(947-0505) on Friday July 29th from 9PM until about 11PM.  The
shortened hour is related to the "bazillion" other activities being
held at the bar that night.

August 7th (Sunday) is the annual Mr & Ms Marigny Leather
Contest/Pageant.  It is being held at the Phoenix Bar (
941 Elysian
Fields Ave) at 6pm.  All proceeds will go to Buzzy's Boys & Girls.
This event is dedicated to the memory of Chris Hall and a short
memorial will be held.

August 13th is the date of our usual Bear's Night Out.  There will
be no Bear's Night Out in August because of another event.  The
Krewe of Amon Ra is hosting their annual Mr & Ms
America Pageant.
NOBBTSC has been asked to provide security for the event. It is
being held in the St Bernard Civic Center in Chalmette.  We now have
the 10 volunteers we need, however extras would not hurt, as we have
seating for a few more, if you would like to attend.  Be there at
6:30PM if you wish to help. Please wear jeans and NOBBTSC member t-
shirt to identify us for this event.

On August 20th, the Gulf Coast Bears (of Mobile, AL.) are hosting
their Gulf Coast Bear Contest.  They have requested NOBBTSC send a
contestant.  In the spirit of Brotherhood, it would be nice if we
could have a contestant and show support for this club.

Due to Southern Decadence, there will be no meeting and beer-bust on
our usual date of September 2nd. (More on the meeting, in a
moment.)  Instead, on Friday, Sept 2nd, NOBBTSC is hosting their
annual Bear Decadence banquet and Sire Ursus contest.  This will be
followed by a "Bears in Boxers" party.  This is all being held in
the Marigny Theater (formerly known as the Barn) behind Cowpokes
Bar  2240 St Claude Avenue  NOLA  (947-0505) starting at
7PM, with
the contest about 8PM.  The cost is $20.  Get your tickets early, if
possible, as seating is limited, due to the presence of the Liberty
Bears (from Philadelphia) and Convergence (from Atlanta) being in
town, and both having expressed interest in attending.

On Sept 3rd, at about 3 or 4pm, there will be a Bears & Bubbles (or
Bells..or is that Belles) event at the Sweet Olive Bed & Breakfast
at 2460 North Rampart Street, NOLA, (947-4332). Since the Liberty
Bears have rented the entire establishment for Southern Decadence,
it could be a fun time.

On Sunday, Sept 4th, the
Phoenix is hosting their annual "Make-up
Breakfast" in preparation for the Parade later in the day.  This
will start about 9-ish in the morning (might even be Drag National
Time..and be 10-ish)  During this time, NOBBTSC will be hosting some
fun events....such as a contest or pageant, (take your choice) for
Best Bear Beard, Best Bear Chest, Best Bear Belly and Best Bear

As most of you know by now, Andre Burgos, the founding President of
NOBBTSC died on Sunday, May 22, 2005 after battling kidney failure.
He was 42 years old.  He was also a member of our brother club, The
Lords of Leather.  He was a volunteer with Project Lazarus, Buzzy's
Boys and Girls and Food for Friends.  He was also the proprietor of
Gargoyle's Shoe and Clothing Store on Decatur Street.  He will be
dearly missed.  NOBBTSC shall keep his passing in mind when we make
donations later in the year.
